In a sobering reminder of the persistent scourge of child pornography, Victor D. Perez, a 25-year-old from South Elgin, faced the consequences of his illicit actions when a Kane County judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison. Formerly the subject of an intensive investigation by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit, Perez was apprehended with a phone loaded with child sexual abuse material, as per the information disclosed by FOX 32 Chicago. This sentence comes after Perez pled guilty to one felony child pornography charge on Thursday.
According to the investigation details shared by WGN-TV, police executed a search warrant in May 2024, which uncovered the trove of illegal content. The search didn't end there, as it was later found that Perez had shared this content over Snapchat, further multiplying his legal woes. Perez, already behind bars for 609 days, will receive credit for time served in the Kane County jail.
Assistant State's Attorney Matthew Rodgers underscored the gravity of these offenses against children, stating, "Every time the offense of child pornography is committed, a child is harmed." His commendation of the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit was obtained by WGN-TV, acknowledging the unit's relentless pursuit to bring offenders such as Perez to justice.
The prosecutor's office is keen on making it clear that such crimes won’t be tolerated.
