The Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre honored its founders, Dr. Lawrence and Barbara Stein, over the weekend for nearly four decades of contributions to South Florida theater. At the gala event, Broadway actors Stephen Christopher Anthony and Janet Dacal reflected on the Steins' influence, with both crediting the organization for helping shape their careers, according to Local 10 News.
The event, called The Greatest Show On The Mile, included cocktails, a five-course dinner on the mainstage, and performances by alumni, the Gables Gazette reported. Proceeds from the gala will support a 2026 renovation project, which includes installing 600 new seats in the Mainstage auditorium.
The evening also marked the official naming of the Dr. Lawrence and Barbara Stein Center for the Performing Arts. Hosted by Miami native Danny Pino, the gala featured performances by artists such as Irene Adjan and Jim Ballard.
The Steins began their work in the 1980s by transforming the former movie house into a live theater venue. According to the Gables Gazette, Barbara Stein was described as a visionary force in that effort. The gala also highlighted plans to improve the theater experience for audiences through the upcoming renovation.
