The Statesville Police Department recently launched its 2025 Fill the Trailer Toy Drive, welcoming community members to join in supporting local families who struggle to provide holiday gifts for their kids. In a post made on their social media, SPD highlighted the hardships that some families face during the festive season, emphasizing the drive's aim to bring joy and celebration to these homes. "With your help, we can make a difference and bring joy to these families," the SPD stated in their Facebook announcement.
The toy drive is set to kick off at this year's Pumpkinfest on November 1, with the police encouraging attendees to bring new, unwrapped toys for children and teens. The event is scheduled to run from 10 am to 3 pm in Downtown Statesville, at the corner of Tradd and E. Broad Street. SPD has also forthrightly outlined the types of gifts they're looking to collect, which include items like board games, sports gear, art supplies, and electronic games—though they stated they cannot accept things like gift cards or monetary donations.
For those unable to make it to Pumpkinfest, the department has set up an easy way to permanently contribute through online shopping. An Amazon link has been provided to have gifts shipped directly to the SPD headquarters. Alternatively, residents can choose to physically drop off their donations at the department's main office on Tradd Street until December 19. Additional donation drives will be held at the Walmart Supercenter on Crossroads Drive, happening over several Saturdays in November and December. The SPD officers and staff are prepared to collect donations from noon until 4 pm on these days. The call for community involvement is clear, with the SPD appealing to the spirit of giving, "Your generosity helps bring smiles to the faces of children and families who deserve a little holiday magic," urging locals to make the season "extra special for families in need."
