A tragic accident claimed the life of a 38-year-old semi-trailer truck driver on a farm in McHenry County, Illinois. According to reports from NBC Chicago, the incident occurred Monday evening when farm equipment struck a power line. The McHenry County Sheriff's office detailed that around 5:17 p.m., a 56-year-old Hebron man was operating a tractor pulling a grain cart beside a parked semi-trailer truck.
Responders came to County Line Road after receiving calls about the accident. The driver, attempting to board the tractor, was electrocuted when the live power lines that were ripped down by the grain cart made contact with the tractor. The deceased man hailed from Woodstock, a name etched briefly in the unforgiving ledger of mortality. The man operating the tractor was transported to a local hospital, where his condition was described as fair, CBS Chicago reported.
The McHenry County Sheriff's office provided more specifics on the harrowing sequence of events. "During the process, the grain cart's Avalanche grain chute made contact with the overhead power lines, causing them to come down," they described. It was at this moment that the truck driver, in an attempt to engage with the machinery now enlivened by the raw current of electricity, met his untimely end.
Electric utility ComEd was summoned to the scene to manage the downed power lines and to carry out an investigation into the accident's cause.
