The stretch of Interstate 24 north of Nashville was the scene of two significant traffic incidents within hours. Yesterday morning, a fatal collision on I-24 in Rutherford County claimed the life of 29-year-old Jermaine Norman Jr. According to Fox17, Norman was driving eastbound when he struck a parked Tennessee Department of Transportation work truck around 3:30 a.m. This led to the closure of the interstate's eastbound lanes for nearly two hours as emergency crews attended the scene.
In an unrelated event the same day, another wreck on I-24 Eastbound at mile marker 42 forced the closure of all eastbound lanes at approximately 1:37 p.m., according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. A statement released and obtained by The Tennessean indicated that the road was not expected to reopen until around 7 p.m., with a diversion having been set up at Exit 40. Details regarding the latter accident or potential injuries resulting from it were not immediately available.
The victim of the early morning incident, Norman, collided with the work truck that was positioned across the left two lanes within a work zone, as reported by Fox17. The driver of the work truck was unharmed.
