Seven individuals were apprehended by the U.S. Coast Guard near Dana Point, California, after reportedly being found on a small vessel just a couple of miles from the harbor. The interdiction occurred on Friday evening and involved a 24-foot cabin vessel under surveillance by the authorities, according to a recent announcement from the U.S. Coast Guard.
The incident unfolded around 6:30 PM when the Coast Guard Cutter Sockeye deployed its boarding team to engage with the craft. At that point, they discovered the seven adults, all declaring they were of Mexican nationality. Following the intervention, the group was detained, and the craft in question was towed to shore. This marked yet another case in a series of maritime interceptions in the region aiming to counter illegal maritime activities.
The sequestered individuals and the seized vessel were subsequently brought to the Orange County Sheriff's Dock, the Coast Guard further stated. The seven individuals were then transferred into the custody of another Department of Homeland Security agency for what was described as further investigation into the matter, with the Coast Guard providing no additional details on the outcomes or the processes that would follow.
