
Union County 911 Telecommunicator Stephanie Laney has received the Lifesaver Award for her quick and effective response that helped save a woman trapped in a burning vehicle after a crash.
According to the Union County website, Laney calmly guided the distressed caller through breaking a window and escaping the vehicle before it was consumed by flames. County Manager Brian Matthews commended her composure and clear communication, noting that her instructions directly contributed to the woman’s survival.
The Lifesaver Award is Union County’s highest honor for employees whose actions directly result in saving a life. Laney’s recognition highlights the essential role 911 telecommunicators play as the first point of contact in emergencies, providing critical support before first responders arrive.
