Tragedy struck Chicago's South Side when a 40-year-old woman was fatally shot early Saturday morning while disembarking from a private bus. The incident, which took place in the 5400 block of South Shields Avenue in the Fuller Park neighborhood, occurred around 12:40 a.m., as reported by WGN-TV. An unidentified assailant, who was reportedly on the bus, drew a weapon and opened fire, striking the woman in her right thigh.
Responding officers and paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department provided treatment at the scene, but despite their efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the University of Chicago Hospital, FOX 32 Chicago disclosed. In what marks a continued surge in violence plaguing the city, the Chicago Police Department has yet to make any arrests in connection with the shooting, and the identity of the victim has not yet been released to the public.
