A tragic incident unfolded in the Bronx early yesterday when a 35-year-old woman, identified as Pamela Almonte Cabrea, was fatally stabbed outside a local nightclub. The deadly encounter occurred in front of Mama Dora Bar and Lounge, located on East Kingsbridge Road, according to Gothamist.
The confrontation quickly escalated after an argument inside the bar spilled out onto the streets shortly after 4 a.m. Amid the chaos, Cabrea was caught on surveillance video trying to shield her husband from an assault, which led to her being stabbed multiple times in the chest. Efforts to hastily provide aid were made as she was taken by private means to BronxCare Health Systems and then to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, The Post reported.
Gothamist mentioned that eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one witness recalling, "They were fighting, and they were all outside. [The victim] came out with her husband, then the other guys came out, too." Meanwhile, The Post disclosed witness statements revealing the assailant used a broken bottle as the weapon before fleeing with a group. Onlookers left shocked by the event cited a need for divine intervention in the face of such violence.
No arrests have been made as of yet, and the NYPD is actively investigating the situation. With a decrease in homicides by 55% and a 16% rise in felony assaults through October 19 in the 52nd Precinct compared to the previous year, this act of violence is a somber reminder of the unexpected ways in which crime can surge and touch lives, as reported by Gothamist.
Surveillance footage capturing much of the incident is now a critical piece of evidence. A dramatic clip from a nearby business showed a man in a yellow jacket, who, after appearing to be overly excited, lunged forward and committed the fatal stabbing.
