An alleged fake call center operation has landed 11 individuals behind bars in Miami-Dade after being busted by law enforcement. The gang, believed to be involved in violent crimes, was operating out of an Airbnb rental near Southwest 162nd Street and 100th Court, according to Miami Police, backed by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, reports CBS News Miami.

Undercover surveillance of the residence saw "numerous associates of a violent gang known as ABK arrive... in high end vehicles ranging over $100,000" and led to the discovery of the elaborate hoax, as stated by WSVN. The subsequent raid recovered several guns, including an assault rifle, cash, stolen credit cards, and active paraphernalia for the fraudulent operation, which was complete with fake background noise played through a TV to simulate a legitimate call center environment.

The illegal setup featured laptops, phones, and audio from YouTube, creating illusions of authenticity to defraud victims by phone tactics, while police also found marijuana and various personal identification documents in plain view, linking the individuals to their crimes. Among the arrested was a local rapper known as D30, highlighted by a poster with his face superimposed on a dollar bill, suggesting the level of boast associated with the gang's endeavors.

In court, Judge Mindy Glazer referenced the situation to the movie "The Beekeeper," calling it a spoofing scheme aimed at stealing people's hard-earned money, while WSVN quotes her admonishing one of the defendants, saying "You're out on felony bond." Defendants in the case now must demonstrate their bail funds are legally obtained, compounding the challenges they face alongside the severe consequences of their alleged scheme.
