
A pedestrian tragedy occurred near Wonder Lake when a 65-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle. The incident took place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m. on Barnard Mill Road, west of Summit Drive, according to a report from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The man, a resident of the area, was pronounced dead after being hit by a 2016 GMC Acadia.
The preliminary investigation suggests the vehicle was traveling eastbound when it struck the man, who was also in the eastbound lane. Following the crash, he was found unconscious in the south ditch area, as detailed in the release provided by the local authorities. Efforts to fully understand the circumstances are ongoing, with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit to thoroughly review the case.
After the collision, the victim was swiftly transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. It was there that he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The occupants of the GMC Acadia, including a 34-year-old female driver from Genoa City, Wisconsin, a 35-year-old male passenger, and four minor children, did not sustain injuries. The Sheriff's report stated that all individuals were properly restrained with seat belts or other restraint systems during the incident. Moreover, the driver, who has been cooperating fully with the investigation, saw no airbag deployment during the impact. Members of the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District had also responded to the scene, attending quickly to the situation.
