
Just before daybreak Friday, a 61-year-old man was found shot to death in a gangway near West 76th Street and South Sangamon Street in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Police said the victim was discovered shortly before 1:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made, and Chicago Police Department Area Two detectives have opened a homicide investigation.

The Chicago Police Department told CBS Chicago that officers found the 61-year-old unresponsive in a gangway in the 7600 block of South Sangamon Street around 1:25 a.m. He had been shot in the chest and was pronounced dead, according to police. No one is in custody as Area Two detectives continue their probe.
Recent violence in Auburn Gresham
The killing follows other recent violence in the neighborhood. ABC7 Chicago reported last week that a different man was found shot to death inside a vehicle in the 8800 block of South Lowe Avenue, a case also being investigated by Area Two.
