A live grenade was discovered among donations at a Goodwill store in Fort Pierce yesterday, prompting a response from the bomb squad. The Fort Pierce Police Department was called to the Sabal Palm Plaza store around 12:50 p.m. after a "suspicious object" was reported, according to CBS12.
Authorities confirmed the item was an active grenade. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Bomb Disposal Unit safely removed the device without incident. WPTV reported that law enforcement responded quickly and determined there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
The source of the grenade is under investigation, and officers do not believe there was any malicious intent. The Fort Pierce Police Department is asking anyone with information about the grenade to come forward.
