The Brentwood Fire & Rescue Department has an annual toy collection drive, supporting the GraceWorks Ministries Manager program, as they've done for the past fifteen years. Until December 5, locals can drop off new and unwrapped toys at various locations throughout Brentwood, including any Brentwood Fire & Rescue Station, The John P. Holt Brentwood Library, Brentwood Service Center, the Police Department, and City Hall, all available for drop-offs between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The collected toys aren't just gifts; they fill the shelves for the Manger program, where parents caught in the grasp of poverty or crisis can experience the simple joy of selecting Christmas gifts for their children, "shopping" at their own behest to bring a measure of joy to their families on Christmas morning. It's not just about the giving, it's about providing a semblance of normalcy and dignity to those who are struggling during the holidays.
According to a recent statement from Brentwood Fire and Rescue Lieutenant John Russ in an article published by the city, “This is our sixteenth year collecting for Toys for Tots,” underscoring how the program has positively impacted the lives of thousands over the last decade by offering a little bit of holiday cheer. It's a community effort that has shown its strength and compassion year after year, and the department is calling on that same community spirit once more.
Lieutenant Russ further emphasized the role of the community in this endeavor, “Over the past decade, the community has provided thousands of children with a little bit of holiday cheer. We hope to continue that success this year and invite everyone to give anything they can,” his words reflecting a tradition of generosity that the people of Brentwood have built and sustained and with the clock ticking down to the deadline, those wanting to contribute are encouraged to come forward soon so that each donation can make its way to a deserving family in time for the celebrations.
