As Veterans Day approaches, residents should brace for a quieter day with respect to county services. A recent announcement confirms that Broward County governmental offices will be taking a breather this Tuesday, November 11, to honor the military service of our nation's veterans. More details can be found on the county's official website.
Normal day-to-day operations are set to pause for most services, including the 311 Call Center which will not run, although there seems to be an after-hours life-line planned for the Homeless Helpline from 10 AM to 2 PM—dial 954-563-4357 for assistance. Broward County Library enthusiasts will face closed doors at all branches except the NSU-Alvin Sherman Library, but digital resources continue to be accessible 24/7.
Regional parks, nature centers, and natural areas remain open. However, specific sites like Deerfield Island Park and the Markham Park Target Range will not be greeting visitors, and the Parks' administrative offices will also take a day off. A holiday gate fee of $3 per vehicle with 8 or fewer occupants will come into play.
Broward County Transit will operate on its regular weekday schedule, with customer service available starting at 6 a.m. While most facilities remain open, the Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach will be closed for the day. The Broward Main Terminal and Lauderhill Transit Center will continue normal operations from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the Aviation Department at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will maintain standard terminal operations, though administrative offices will be closed, according to the county's news release.
On Veterans Day, Broward County Animal Care will handle emergency cases only. Residents should call 911 for animal bites or attacks, while non-urgent concerns will be addressed when regular services resume at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services will remain fully operational throughout the holiday, with family and professional services available 24/7 at 954-357-5200. The Nancy J. Cotterman Center will also continue round-the-clock support, with emergency intakes and immediate assistance accessible through its 24-hour hotline at 954-357-5778.
Waste collection services in the Broward Municipal Services District will continue as scheduled on Veterans Day, with garbage, bulk, and recycling pickup operating as normal. Residents in other municipalities should check with their local waste service providers for holiday schedules. However, the Broward County Landfill will be closed for the holiday and will reopen the following day.
