The ceremony, set to take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cambridge Common near the historic Civil War monument, will feature Army Veteran Keven Lambert as its keynote speaker. Lambert's military accolades include 16 months of service in Iraq, exemplifying leadership and resilience before a medical discharge. He has since focused his efforts on aiding fellow servicemembers, specializing in suicide prevention and support for veterans dealing with housing, incarceration, and re-entry challenges.
In an announcement detailed on the official City of Cambridge website, members of the community are invited to partake in this patriotic event. The event also includes an informal gathering and complimentary luncheon from 12-3 p.m. at the Sheraton Commander Hotel's Liberty Revolution Ballroom, where camaraderie and continued conversation can be shared amongst veterans and supporters.
Alongside this announcement, the City of Cambridge has released information concerning various municipal service changes in honor of the holiday. City offices, libraries, and senior centers will all close their doors in observance, while city-operated parking meters will grant free parking for the day. Further, routine services such as curbside collection of trash and recycling will be postponed, following a one-day delay schedule for the remainder of the week.
