Bronzeville and Douglas neighborhoods have been the focus of a recent string of burglaries, the Chicago Police Department warns. The burglaries, which occurred across several blocks within the 002nd (Wentworth) District, involved offenders gaining entry to garages through doors before pilfering belongings. Details of the incidents as well as advice for residents have been circulated in a community alert, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance and security measures.
The burglaries took place between October 20 and October 29 and spanned several locations. Notably, a garage on the 4500 block of South Champlain Ave. was breached sometime between the evening of October 20 and the early morning of October 21. Other incidents followed on South Langley Ave., East 42nd St., East Oakwood Blvd., South Prairie Ave., and East 45th St., indicating a pattern of targeted thefts in Bronzeville and Douglas. In response, local authorities are urging residents to adopt preventive measures. These include maintaining well-lit property perimeters and promptly reporting any suspicious activities in the vicinity.
