
A Chicago police officer was hospitalized after an incident that occurred while responding to a potentially dangerous situation in the Chatham neighborhood. NBC Chicago reports that the officer was struck by a vehicle around 5:31 p.m. on Saturday after police had been called to the 8100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue on account of a person with a gun.
Upon arrival, the officers identified a man who matched the description of the reported armed individual entering a Chevy Impala. He then proceeded to make a frantic escape. During his flight, the man collided with a marked CPD squad car and an officer. The scene, which drew a substantial response from emergency services, was captured in video footage by onlookers and shared on the Citizen App, with images showing the police and fire department presence in the neighborhood shortly thereafter at around 6 p.m.
Police later apprehended the driver on the 4100 block of South Indiana after a chase. CBS News Chicago stated that the suspect was taken into custody following the pursuit.
