Chicago's culinary scene is once again in the spotlight, with several local eateries earning the prestigious MICHELIN star recognition. In the latest announcement, two new entrants, Kasama and Feld, stood out with their debut in the esteemed list. According to WGN-TV, Kasama, the Filipino restaurant located on North Winchester Avenue, was awarded two MICHELIN stars, highlighting the dynamic blend of modern interpretation of Filipino cuisine crafted by the husband and wife team of Tim Flores and Genie Kwon.
The Ukrainian Village proved to be a fertile ground for culinary excellence, as its own Feld secured a MICHELIN star. Garnering both a MICHELIN Star and a Green Star, Feld has set a new precedent in the neighborhood. The restaurant, according to an ABC7 Chicago report, is known for sourcing most of its products within a four-hour radius of its location, a testament to Chef Jacob Potashnick's commitment to local produce and sustainable culinary practices.
In addition to these noteworthy achievements, the MICHELIN Guide's recognition extended to three new Chicago restaurants that were added to the Bib Gourmand list, showcasing establishments that offer both skillful cooking and value for money. This comes on the heels of the 2025 MICHELIN Guide Northeast Cities Ceremony, which took place in Philadelphia and included honorees from Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
Reflecting on the essence of what a MICHELIN Star represents, it strives to recognize restaurants that not only stand out in terms of ingredient quality and flavor harmony but also demonstrate a mastery of technique and a distinct personality of the chef. There's no cap on excellence, as there is no limit to how many Stars can be awarded in a year. However, the stakes remain high; Stars can and will be taken away if standards slip. The Guide elaborates on the meaning of each level of award, from one to three stars, emphasizing the distinction in the culinary experiences they represent.
The announcement serves as an annual reminder that Chicago continues to be a diverse and dynamic stage for culinary innovation. Whether it’s the teamwork behind Kasama's elevated cuisine, Feld's commitment to local ingredients, or the newcomers making a mark on the Bib Gourmand list, the city's restaurant scene promises to offer outstanding dining experiences that cater to a varied palate.
