The Cane Creek Recreation Center in Cookeville marked its 20th anniversary this October, celebrating two decades of growth since opening in 2005. Recreation Superintendent Cara Sheets reflected on the early days, recalling, “We had five to seven evening classes each week and maybe one or two people passing through the park during the day,” according to the City of Cookeville.

From its modest start in temporary locations, the center has expanded to include a gymnasium, dog park, pickleball courts, playground, and splash pad. Sheets noted, “It’s exciting to see how much the center and the park have developed,” as the facility now welcomes about 200 to 250 visitors daily with a full-time staff and expanded programs, as reported by the City of Cookeville.

The Cane Creek Recreation Center is marking its 20th anniversary, recognizing two decades of events and programs such as Dogapalooza, Father-Daughter Date Night, and Fit Frenzy. “With the recent additions, we expect even more people to enjoy this space in the years to come,” said Sheets. Information about current programs and memberships can be found on the City of Cookeville’s leisure services website or by calling 931-526-7393.
