A serious traffic incident in the San Ysidro neighborhood has left an elderly man with life-threatening injuries, according to authorities. The San Diego Police Department reported that the collision occurred yesterday at around 6:30 PM on 200 East San Ysidro Boulevard, after a 71-year-old driver, exiting the freeway in a 2011 Jeep Liberty, struck an 83-year-old male pedestrian who crossed mid-block.
The police said that the injured man sustained a pelvic fracture and a brain bleed; he was immediately transported to a local hospital, where his injuries are currently being treated as life-threatening. While the situation was complicated, alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor to the accident. Officer J. Perales, the SDPD Watch Commander, confirmed that the department's Traffic Division is in charge of the investigation.
