A tragic collision on Redwood Road north of Camp Williams resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man and left two others critically injured on Wednesday afternoon. As reported by KSL.com, the accident occurred near 17000 S. Redwood Road around 3:17 p.m., when a Hyundai Santa Cruz traveling southbound veered into the oncoming traffic lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Rav4.
Saratoga Springs Police Sgt. Jesse Davis, as obtained by KSL.com, described the scene, saying officers found the Santa Cruz engulfed in flames upon their arrival. The young driver of that car was declared dead at the location, while the passenger and the driver of the Rav4 were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The crash led to extensive traffic disruptions, with road closures extending between Camp Williams Road and Jordan Narrows Road, as detailed by Saratoga Springs Police.
The Utah Department of Transportation responded by advising drivers to seek alternative routes, such as 2100 North and Porter Rockwell, as Redwood Road was shut down in both directions to facilitate investigation and response efforts. A brief note from KUTV warned of "prolonged delays" and urged commuters to plan accordingly.
Adding detail to the incident, AnnElise Harrison, a spokeswoman for Saratoga Springs aiding Bluffdale PD, recounted to Gephardt Daily that a red sedan crossed the centerline and initiated the fatal collision with the northbound SUV. The sedan's driver, a 19-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his female passenger, also a teenager, was airlifted in critical condition. The 32-year-old man driving the SUV was also critically injured and taken by ground ambulance to the hospital. UDOT later confirmed the road had reopened following the accident investigation.
