Fort Lauderdale residents can expect minor transportation disruptions starting tomorrow, as the County's Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division begins drainage system maintenance work. The improvement efforts, slated from tomorrow through February 2026, involve cleaning, inspecting, and repairing points on NE 7th Avenue and Eller Drive to McIntosh Road. According to a Broward County press release, these operations are funded by the gas tax and aim to enhance the area's drainage capabilities.
Alongside the two-lane roadways where the work will take place, traffic will be down to a single lane. With flaggers, traffic through the work zone will be directed to help manage the flow during less busy hours. Stated by the recent announcement, "All driveways/entrances and sidewalks will be accessible throughout the duration of the project," aiming to minimize inconvenience for local commuters and residents.
For those seeking additional information or needing to raise concerns, the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division is accessible at 954-357-6040 during regular business hours. Project Manager Ronald Chung is also available for contact at 305-322-2923 or via email at [email protected].
While the work may pose some temporary challenges to Fort Lauderdale’s daily commute, Broward County has expressed gratitude ahead of time, via their press briefing. They've asked for the public's patience: "Broward County appreciates your patience as we complete this necessary drainage work."
