The City of Hollywood is gearing up to celebrate its 100th birthday with a grand three-day bash starting today, Hollywood officials announced. The centennial celebrations will include everything from pyrotechnics and laser light shows to live music performances and a winter wonderland complete with Santa and real snow, promising an eventful experience for attendees of all ages, as mentioned on the city's website.
Festivities get underway today at the Hollywood Beach Bandshell with a 7:00 p.m. concert by "Sippin Fire," sponsored by the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort, according to a city press release. The excitement moves downtown tomorrow, with more than 40 vendor booths, historical displays, and interactive kids' activities, and an official Tree Lighting at 7:00 p.m. and a "real snow" event in Florida's typically warm climate.
The peak of the celebration takes place on Saturday, starting at 5:00 p.m. as the city honors 16 local centenarians, ranging in age from 99 to 108, on the ArtsPark amphitheater stage. This will be followed by the "History of Hollywood" documentary by the Hollywood Historical Society. Kool & the Gang, famous for hits like "Celebration" and "Get Down on It", is set to headline the event later that evening. Free parking is available downtown from 3:00 p.m. tomorrow until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, easing the way for locals and tourists alike to join the festivities.
Attendees are advised by the Hollywood Police Department to anticipate increased traffic around the ArtsPark at Young Circle, and plan accordingly for detours and delays, stated the press release. Alcohol, weapons, fireworks, glass, single-use plastics, and foam items are all prohibited and will be confiscated to ensure a safe, orderly environment, while party-goers are encouraged to practice sustainability by using reusable items and being mindful of trash disposal.
For those seeking transportation options, the Hollywood Sun Shuttle will extend its service hours on the days of the event, offering free rides downtown and to the beach with the promo code "CITY100", a statement obtained by the city's press office emphasized. Meanwhile, a dedicated hotline will be available for any queries regarding the centennial celebrations, promising live assistance to those in need of information.
