A family's heartbreak has translated into a city's decisive action after a tragic incident involving a young boy and a dog in Hurricane, Utah. On Oct. 25, a 5-year-old boy, Leo Fuller, suffered serious injuries to his face after being bitten by a German Shepherd mix while trying to hug the animal. Brayden Fuller, Leo's father, detailed the harrowing experience of his son to KUTV, marking a somber prelude to the dog's fate. Following a mandatory ten-day quarantine period, wherein the dog was observed by a licensed veterinarian, Hurricane City Animal Control announced the animal would be euthanized.
In their ongoing effort towards ensuring public well-being, the aggressive disposition the dog continued to exhibit during quarantine has led to a determination by city officials. "Throughout this period, the animal exhibited aggressive behavior," according to KSL.com. The city resorted to the mandatory stipulation provided in the municipal code, designating the dog as "vicious" and upholding the euthanization as a necessary act given the circumstances.
According to the Hurricane City ordinance cited in this matter, an animal can be put down if it's found to be a threat to the community. Upholding this ordinance, Hurricane City Animal Control has legally impounded the dog post-quarantine period, drawing on their responsibility to protect its residents.
