Almost one year after assuming office, Indiana Governor Mike Braun is steering the state's economy towards small business empowerment and entrepreneurship, a sentiment deeply ingrained in his personal business journey. During a conversation with 13News on the occasion of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Braun shared that his administration is prioritizing "Main Street" and working to invigorate local commerce.

The governor also discussed the state’s economic affairs during an interview with News 8's Hanna Mordoh, answering questions concerning redistricting. Though his comments during the Daybreak show primarily focused on the initiative for businesses he also took the opportunity to address some political workings of the state, according to WISH TV.

Furthermore, Braun has recently highlighted new state efforts to boost homegrown enterprises, with youth programs such as STARTedUp and Innovate WithIN reaching over 15,000 students and culminating in what has been touted as the nation's largest high school pitch competition. WIBC detailed that these initiatives are part of a broader push to embed entrepreneurial skills early on.

With over 591,000 small businesses comprising 99.4% of all businesses in Indiana, the importance of these local ventures is undeniable. These businesses employ around 1.2 million Hoosiers, making up 43% of the state's workforce, Governor Braun emphasized the state's top-five ranking for startup survival rate, with an 84% success rate reported after the first year.
