According to a statement released by the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, deputies discovered the individual unresponsive during their routine duties and promptly called for medical assistance.
The efforts of both jail medical staff and the San Diego Fire Department, who took over lifesaving measures upon arrival, were unable to revive the individual. The man was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:35 AM, only half an hour after he was discovered. This individual had been in custody for over a week, having been housed at the facility since November 8, on charges of shoplifting with prior convictions.
