A man was arrested at a West Valley City Raising Cane's after allegedly taking a police officer's Taser during an altercation that began when he claimed he had been robbed. ABC4 reports that Olivero Caballero, 47, now faces several charges, including assault, criminal trespass, and disarming a police officer of an energy device.

Upon the officers' arrival, Caballero was behind the counter, an area explicitly designated for employees only, and he began to resist arrest by pulling his arms away and struggling against the officers' attempts to apprehend him. According to KUTV, Caballero was instructed to put his hands behind his back; however, as they attempted to arrest him, that's when Caballero became combative and began grabbing at the officer's arms and legs, eventually managing to disarm one of the officers of his Taser.

The incident continued to escalate as Caballero allegedly held the Taser as if preparing to use it against the officers, who then acted quickly to secure the device. KSL states police used pepper spray and subdued Caballero, subsequently using a Taser before his arrest, following his attempt to use an officer's Taser against them.

Further details provided by authorities indicate that it was when Caballero was on the ground that he was able to grab and activate the Taser, "holding it in a manner as if he was going to attempt to use it against police," as told by the police affidavit, obtained by KSL, yet the officers were able to pin the Taser to the ground before Caballero used it, and then they used another Taser on him and took him into custody. Caballero was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail yesterday on a spate of charges, including assault on a peace officer, aggravated commercial obstruction, and disarming a police officer, among others.
