A 47-year-old man was found dead with head trauma in the bed of a city Parks Department truck on Randall's Island yesterday, authorities said. Discovered by a parks employee in a restricted lot at the park’s Operations Building near Bronx Shore and Central roads, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, The New York Post reported.
Officials responded at around 7:21 a.m. and found the man unconscious and unresponsive, with injuries consistent with serious head trauma. He was found among rakes and other park tools, according to The New York Post. No arrests have been made, and while foul play is not currently the main theory, it has not been ruled out.
The identity of the deceased man has not been released, pending notification of his family. According to officials quoted by the Gothamist, the city medical examiner is set to determine the cause of death. As the investigation continues, law enforcement has acknowledged that the man had a history of inebriation-related incidents, with officers having previously come to his aid on nine separate occasions.
