Memphis Mayor Paul Young has nominated Colin Burress as the city’s next Fire Chief, following the departure of Gina Y. Sweat. Burress, currently an Assistant Chief, has served with the Memphis Fire Department for nearly 30 years, according to the City of Memphis announcement.
Mayor Young stated that Burress is an experienced public safety leader who understands the community’s needs and the responsibilities of the role. The nomination will be submitted to the Memphis City Council for confirmation.
Burress has held several command positions during his career and is expected to oversee efforts to strengthen emergency response operations, firefighter and paramedic readiness, and overall public safety in Memphis.
The City Council’s approval would officially confirm Burress as the next Fire Chief of the Memphis Fire Department.
