The Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections is gearing up to send out a fresh wave of mail-in ballots for the upcoming local December 9th elections. Starting on Monday, November 17, over 40,000 ballots will be dispatched to voters who have requested the mail-in option. The process kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at the Elections Headquarters Warehouse, and it's not just ballots being shipped — media is invited to witness the process and fire off any questions to the Honorable Alina Garcia, the Supervisor of Elections herself. "Building the public’s trust through secure, fair, accurate, and accessible elections is my pledge," Garcia emphasized in a statement released early this morning, as noted by the county's website.
Vote-by-mail isn't the only route for Miami-Dade citizens looking to cast their vote. Garcia reminds that there are to conveniently also utilize early voting or the traditional in-person voting on election day itself. This emphasis on varied voting methods comes amidst a push to get more locals involved in elections that, as Garcia says, elect leaders "closest to the people." Miamians have until November 27 to request their mail-in ballots, but are urged not to dilly-dally; all ballots must land in the Supervisor's hands no later than 7 p.m. on election night to count.
Voters needing to update their ballot mailing address with the Office of the Supervisor of Elections must complete a Statewide Vote-By-Mail Ballot Request Form and provide a signature. The U.S. Postal Service will not forward these ballots, so only ballots sent to the updated address will be delivered. This requirement does not apply to absent uniformed service members, overseas voters, or requests made by an authorized designee, as mentioned on the county's website.
Miami-Dade County has updated its voting process to make it more accessible, offering online resources at www.votemiamidade.gov. Voters can also stay informed through the county’s social media channels @votemiamidade. For additional assistance, the voting hotline is available at 305-499-8444.
