Officers from the Miami Springs Police Department arrested a masked bicyclist found toting burglary tools, according to a report by Local10. The patrol officers, while on their regular midnight shift, spotted the suspect, Randy Gregory Gotrace, cycling through the streets without lights, his face obscured by a mask, around 4 a.m. yesterday.
The officers' attempt to engage led to a brief pursuit when Gotrace decided to flee, revealing a disregard for the law akin to his avoidance of bicycle safety regulations. Upon detention, Gotrace did not comply with officers' requests to identify himself. Subsequent to his apprehension, Gotrace was found with various burglary tools and several pieces of property, which were then taken into evidence, as detailed in the officers' report.
A deeper dive into Gotrace's past by law enforcement uncovered an "extensive violent criminal history," prompting them to charge him with loitering and prowling, with a heightened concern for the well-being of the residents. The Miami Springs Police Department used the incident to remind the public via Instagram to secure their vehicles and remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activity.
