Miami has just enhanced its pedestrian-friendly credentials with the grand opening of the Inter Grove Gallery, a sprawling 150,000-square-foot outdoor space dedicated to art, food, and entertainment. Local 10 News reports that this new addition is the latest phase in the development of The Underline, a project converting 3.5 miles of public trail into a vibrant artery pulsating with cultural and entrepreneurial spirit.
Mayor Francis Suarez, present to ceremoniously inaugurate the space, enthusiastically expressed the sentiment that each new section brought "more hope" and "more inspiration." He believes such developments are a testament to the city's commitment to enhancing the lives of its residents. "It’s amazing to be here to cut the ribbon. Every time we cut the ribbon of another section it’s more hope, more inspiration and confidence our community has for us to execute things that will change their quality of life," Suarez told Local 10 News.
This vision also incorporates an economic angle. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava highlighted the substantial impact the Gallery is expected to have on the local marketplace. In a statement documented by Local 10 News, she said, "It’s also going to be an economic driver because the value along the corridor will shoot up. People will want to live here because of this space but also because it’s close to a very excellent transit system."
A recent Facebook post by Miami-Dade's transit authority highlighted the collaborative effort behind this initiative, revealing the involvement of various stakeholders, including Friends of The Underline and the Florida Department of Transportation. Together, they've managed to seamlessly add nearly four miles of connected green space, linking communities and creating new pathways for transit and leisure alike. The Underline project has consistently shown that it's possible to simultaneously move people and to bring them together.
