According to an announcement on the official MNPD website, officers will be patrolling on foot, horseback, and in patrol cars and helicopters from Friday through the weekend festivities. Their presence is part of a concerted effort to enhance public safety and sharply reduce instances of retail theft across various shopping hubs.
The MNPD states it is working with the management of shopping centers like Tanger Outlets, Green Hills Mall, Opry Mills Mall, and the Nashville West shopping center, as well as big box stores including Wal-Mart and Target. The deployment of resources includes monitoring high-traffic parking areas and managing congestion, especially during key events like the Opry 100 celebration on Friday evening. Anyone caught stealing or tampering with vehicles will be subject to arrest and prosecution, as the department takes a no-tolerance approach to such disturbances.
At Opry Mills, an increase in personal security measures will include Hermitage Precinct officers collaborating with Mounted Patrol units and private security to oversee the parking lots and access points. Meanwhile, West Precinct officers will be boosting their visibility around Green Hills Mall and nearby shopping areas, adding an extra layer of video surveillance at One Bellevue Plaza in response to a rise in shoplifting incidents there this year.
Ongoing efforts to ensure the smooth flow of holiday traffic and shopping also include the Southeast Precinct, which will extend its coverage area to Tanger Outlets. The MNPD's Aviation Unit will be airborne, watching shopping center parking lots from above for any unusual activity. Crews in the air will maintain constant contact with units on the ground, ready to swiftly report and respond to any potential threats to shoppers or any tangible infractions in real-time.

This means locking car doors and making sure valuables are not left in plain sight inside vehicles, with a particular emphasis on safely securing firearms.
