A fire in San Francisco's bustling Cow Hollow neighborhood has left one person dead and several residents displaced following an intense battle with the blaze by city firefighters. The San Francisco Fire Department reported, via a social media post, that the emergency crews were called to the 1500 block of Filbert Street at around 9:25 PM, where they discovered heavy smoke and flames engulfing the well of light, prompting a second alarm due to the potential threat to adjacent buildings.
Apart from extinguishing the fire swiftly, as water hit the fire by 09:41 PM, the SFFD also had to navigate through difficult conditions inside the apartment building, including, as Chief Dean Crispen described in an interview, "hoarder conditions" which presented a challenge to the firefighting effort and the one deceased person was found just outside their apartment, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The firefighting efforts were successful enough to contain the fire by 10:21 PM, and also rescue two dogs and two cats. However, two residents were left without a home in the wake of the blaze. Officials from the Building Inspection, the Medical Examiner, the Red Cross, PG&E, SFPD, and fire investigators responded to the incident.
