The Plantation Police Department has issued a warning about an increase in ATM card skimming incidents. According to NBC Miami, skimming involves installing hidden devices on ATMs that secretly record users’ bank information when cards are inserted. Thieves then use the stolen data to create duplicate cards and withdraw money from victims’ accounts.
In a recent Plantation Police Department's X post, police urged residents to monitor their bank accounts for unusual activity and to stay alert when using ATMs. They advised checking for signs of tampering, hidden cameras, or loose keypad covers. Officers noted that skimming devices are often attached quickly, leaving ATMs looking “sloppy.”

Authorities recommend covering your PIN when entering it, using indoor ATMs when possible, and choosing contactless tap payments to reduce risk. If an ATM appears altered, the public is advised to report it to the bank or business immediately and to report any suspicious account activity without delay.
