Port St. Lucie residents are on edge after a brazen home invasion occurred yesterday afternoon. Two suspects, dressed head-to-toe in black, and forced their way into a home while a woman was alone inside, CBS12 reports. The invasion took place on SW Coleman Avenue, where police were called to the scene shortly after 2 p.m.
The pair, at least one of whom was armed with a gun, demanded cash from the woman before fleeing in a maroon SUV, according to police. Master Sgt. Dominick Mesiti with the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) noted the woman was unharmed but certainly shaken, "Unfortunately, she did have to go through a traumatic experience but we're very glad she was uninjured," Mesiti told CBS12. The neighborhood, typically quiet, has been disrupted by the event with residents, particularly those with young families feeling vulnerable.
Chris Santiago, who lives a few doors down from where the incident occurred, was alarmed when his wife called him about the situation while he was at work. "It's scary," Santiago told WPBF. He later reviewed footage from his ring doorbell camera, which captured the suspects' vehicle passing by his house. "It's incredible how they just passed through the streets. Even on the cameras, you can see they just pass through the streets like nothing happened," Santiago recounted.
The suspects, who remain at large, were last seen wearing black hoodies, gloves, and masks, making their identification challenging. Nevertheless, police hope that someone might recognize the maroon SUV seen fleeing the scene. Santiago and other neighbors are taking extra precautions until the suspects are arrested, "Make sure you lock the doors, lock the windows," Santiago said as per CBS12, "make sure everything is right. That way, don’t give them a chance to get in." Police are urging anyone who spots the suspects or has any information to call 911 and not to approach them directly.
