A tragic and violent event unfolded in Nashville as a 15-year-old girl, bearing the weight of future motherhood at 30 weeks pregnant, was shot in the chest by her 17-year-old boyfriend, who claimed the incident was an accident during a heated struggle, according to a report from Nashville.gov. The harrowing ordeal left the young victim fighting for her life in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt, where doctors also delivered her child.
The girl was taken to Skyline Medical Center around 11:45 a.m by her sister and cousin, and later transferred to Vanderbilt for further care. The boyfriend reportedly told detectives upon meeting them at the hospital that the altercation began when the victim grew irate upon discovering another girl had messaged him, which escalated into an argument and eventually to her wielding a pistol found in his jacket. He claimed that he tried to disarm her, which unfortunately led to the gun discharging and wounding her.
As the investigation unfolded, the young man eventually revealed the location of the firearm to authorities, who have since recovered it, citing the importance of understanding the sequence of events that led to the near-fatal shooting and the critical aspects of gun safety, especially among youth.
