A San Francisco paraeducator is facing serious charges following allegations of sexual assault of a minor. Calvin Tran, a 36-year-old male from the city, has been charged with multiple felonies for incidents believed to have taken place between 2015 and 2018, as per an announcement made today by District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. The specific charges leveled against Tran include committing lewd acts upon a child, continuous sexual abuse, oral copulation of a person under 14, aggravated sexual assault of a child, forcible oral copulation of a minor 14 or older, and four counts of meeting a minor for lewd purposes. According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Tran is currently being held without bail due to the perceived risk to public safety.
The circumstances underlying these grave accusations reveal that Tran, then a teacher, is alleged to have engaged in an inappropriate and sustained relationship with the student. To arrest Tran without incident on Thursday, officers from the San Francisco Police Department's Fugitive Recovery Enforcement Team (FRET) moved swiftly once probable cause was established. Information from a press release provided by the San Francisco Police Department indicates that the abuse took place at Francisco Middle School, where the victim was attending at the time.
These revelations come after the unnamed victim courageously stepped forward to report the alleged assaults to the SFPD in August of 2025. The case was then handled by the SFPD Special Victims Unit (SVU), which identified and later apprehended Tran. According to the allegations, substantial sexual conduct between Tran and the child victim occurred over a several-year period, ending when the victim was a teenager.
The San Francisco Unified School District is reportedly cooperating with the investigation, undertaking measures to ensure the safety of its student body and staff. In addition to facing the charges above, court documents add that Tran is accused of aggravated sexual assault of a child, among other serious offenses. The court records assert that multiple sexual assaults transpired in various locations, showcasing a pattern of abuse that the district attorney's office deems to be significant. With the legal proceedings set to continue, Tran's arraignment has been fixed for December 3 at 9:00 AM in Department 19 at the Hall of Justice.
While Tran remains in custody with no bail set, authorities emphasize that the investigation is still active. They encourage anyone with further information to come forward and contact the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444, or Text a Tip to TIP411, beginning the text message with SFPD.
