St. Louis residents can access free firewood this winter through the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry, available at select locations while supplies last. The program is offered at the lower Muny Opera Parking Lot in Forest Park, near the compost area off Holly Hills Drive in Carondelet Park, and north of Picnic Site #4 in O’Fallon Park, according to the City of St. Louis.
The initiative reflects the City of St. Louis’ commitment to sustainability and helping residents during colder months. Parks Director Greg Hayes said the program is made possible through the staff’s ongoing park maintenance and storm response efforts.
The City of St. Louis is providing free firewood from city tree removal work, with wood dropped off in the afternoons from Monday to Friday. Availability varies by day and location, and the program runs through early March 2026 while supplies last. Firewood is first-come, first-served, and commercial vehicles or trailers are not allowed. Residents can call the Forestry Division at (314) 613-7200 for more information.
