The Encore Dance Theatre team from Sunrise, Florida, is set to bring its dynamic routines to the bustling streets of New York City during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Selected from among thousands of dance studios nationwide, 26 spirited dancers from this esteemed dance studio have been chosen by Spirit of America Productions for a spot in the prestigious event. The opportunity is not only an honor but also a realization of childhood dreams for many of the performers, as dancer Taylor Cundiff shared her long-held aspirations with Local 10, saying, "I’d watch the parade and think, ‘I want to be that.’ Now I’m actually doing it."
With the performance approaching, the excitement among the dancers is palpable. For some, like Bella Florio, this trip will serve as an introduction to the grandeur of New York — an experience punctuated by their upcoming performance on an international stage, which she clearly looks forward to, according to her statement to WSVN. "Some of us have never been to New York, like me, it’s my first time, so I’m super excited," Florio expressed. Striving for perfection, the dancers have dedicated countless hours of rehearsal, mastering the choreography sent via video, as revealed by Anne Brodsky, the studio's founder, to Local 10. This rigorous preparation has turned nerves into confidence for performers like Layla Duggar, who stated, "The more we’ve worked, the more fun it’s become."
In addition to the parade, the Encore Dance Theatre members will be treated to the cultural treasure trove that New York offers. Broadway’s 'Moulin Rouge!' and the 'Radio City Christmas Spectacular' are on their itinerary, rewarding their years of dedication with world-class entertainment alongside their own performance. The significance of this journey extends beyond dance; it underlines the power of camaraderie and shared experiences.
The sentiment of family and community rings strong within the dancers and their supporting kin. Dancer Emily Ramkissoon’s feelings encapsulate the unity felt by the group as she prepared for the experience. “We’re gonna go together all as a group, and I’m so grateful that I get to experience this once-in-a-lifetime performance with my best friends, my family, and I’m so thankful that I get to experience this once-in-a-lifetime thing alongside them,” she told WSVN. Brodsky echoes the importance of these collective moments, expressing her pride in providing such opportunities. “It makes me feel really great to be able to give these kids such an amazing experience. We love when the kids are able to have these experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives,” Broadsky stated to WSVN. Their trip is set to begin on Saturday.
