The suspect in a high-speed chase and officer-involved shooting has been identified as Michael R. Trujillo, a 25-year-old with ties to Pueblo, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office. A multi-city pursuit that started in Monument ended with a tense standoff in a Pueblo West field this past Tuesday.

After allegedly stealing a truck from a Monument shopping center, Trujillo led law enforcement on a chase that saw him driving south on Interstate 25. During the pursuit, he fired shots from the stolen 2025 Chevy Silverado as troopers closely followed. An aircraft unit from the Colorado State Patrol contributed to locating Trujillo. Upon reaching Exit 108, Trujillo continued to actively try and escape by driving west on Purcell Boulevard.

The chase came to a halt after the truck stalled in a field northeast of the intersection at N. Purcell Boulevard and Fairbanks Drive. When Trujillo refused to comply with verbal orders and fired more shots, a Monument Police detective, following the vehicle, returned fire. No other officers discharged their weapons during the incident. The law enforcement personnel on site and Pueblo West Fire provided medical assistance to Trujillo before he was airlifted to a hospital in Colorado Springs, bearing a gunshot wound.
