The Sweetwater Police Department has launched "Operation Safe Holidays" to enhance security at Dolphin Mall during the holiday shopping season. Now in its third year, the operation increases both uniformed and undercover officer presence around the mall, according to Local 10 News.
The move follows a recent robbery at the mall, where a man in his 60s had $3,000 worth of jewelry stolen. Officers monitor the mall through a command center with real-time camera feeds, allowing them to track activity across the complex, Local 10 News reported.
Sweetwater Police noted a 34% decline in citywide crime last year, with further reductions expected this year, as per NBC Miami. Shoppers are advised to remove valuables from vehicles, avoid leaving phones unattended, and ensure their cars are locked.
The enhanced security will remain in place through the first week of January 2026. Chief Sergio Diez emphasized that police will respond promptly to any calls for help.
