
Early Sunday morning, a traffic accident in West Ridge seriously injured two Chicago police officers when their squad car was struck by another vehicle. The collision occurred at the intersection in the 6200 block of North Western Avenue. A 26-year-old man, driving a Toyota sedan, reportedly ran a traffic light and collided with the marked CPD car, as ABC7 Chicago reported.
The incident took place just before 3:45 a.m., and the two officers were subsequently transported to a local hospital due to sustaining serious injuries. The young man was also taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was said to stabilize and currently remains. Citations are pending according to both police reports and media outlets covering the story, with ongoing investigations likely to thoroughly investigate and possibly to assign responsibility.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the two CPD officers were initially listed in serious condition. The driver's condition was not disclosed beyond having been stabilized at St. Francis Hospital. The reports have not indicated any additional factors that may have contributed to the crash, such as road conditions or vehicle malfunction.
