San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is buzzing with activity as United Airlines unveils a summer 2026 flight schedule that sets a new record for the carrier. Packed with 28 additional flights to cities like Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Washington, D.C., this expansion will see United operating over 300 daily departures to more than 100 destinations with a special emphasis on international travel; travelers can expect over 50 daily international flights to upwards of 30 international locations. "We are grateful for United’s continued commitment to SFO and the San Francisco Bay Area," Mike Nakornkhet, Airport Director, expressed, per the San Francisco International Airport.
The announcement coincides with a significant milestone as United Airlines marks its 100th anniversary, commemorating nearly a century of connecting the Bay Area to the world. It also introduced new nonstop flights to Panama City, Panama, and San Jose, Costa Rica, last year. On December 11, it will add seasonal flights to Adelaide, Australia, to its roster. Spanning the skies and the years, United's expansive presence at SFO is ingrained in the very narrative of the airport's history, and their latest schedule reflects their enduring legacy and ambition.
Meanwhile, SFO itself is undergoing a transformative facelift with the $2.6 billion Terminal 3 West Modernization project. Designed to revitalize the existing 650,000-square-foot western half of Terminal 3, the project encompasses a comprehensive seismic retrofit, an expanded security checkpoint, enhanced passenger amenities, and the construction of an additional 200,000 square feet, which is anticipated to feature new food, beverage, and retail options for travelers. All this is slated to unveil in the autumn of 2027.
