A recent incident in Hollywood has captured attention as a Brightline train collided with an unoccupied blue Honda Civic stuck on the tracks, according to Hollywood police investigating the event. This unusual occurrence took place early this morning, around 4:47 a.m., near Fillmore Street and Dixie Highway, with authorities rushing to the scene after reports of the incident surfaced. Fortunately, Local 10 News stated that no injuries were reported, and the train managed to escape any substantial damage.
As a result of the cleanup and ongoing investigation, temporary traffic alterations were observed as all railroad crossings from Fillmore Street to Pembroke Road had to be temporarily closed. While the police department confirmed the absence of the vehicle's owner during the collision, the reasons behind the car's unfortunate positioning on the rails remain unclear.
In an unrelated but equally tragic incident, a man has perished following a Brightline train collision yesterday morning in Oakland Park. The Broward County Sheriff's Office confirmed the death on the scene, located in the 1200 block of Northeast 38th Street, after first responders arrived shortly after 8:30 a.m. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead upon their arrival, his identity withheld pending notification of his family, as reported by CBS Miami.
In light of this incident, Brightline has reiterated the paramount importance of railway safety, sharing pertinent tips with CBS Miami which cater to prevent similar tragedies. Among the advised precautions is the steep danger accompanying attempts to maneuver around lowered safety arms, as well as the importance of staying alert near quiet zones, where train horns might be non-existent, making the approaching trains less noticeable. They also highlighted actions to take if one's vehicle stalls on the tracks, urging immediate evacuation and prompting to call the emergency number posted near crossings. Addressing mental health concerns, Brightline made mention of resources available to those in a crisis, including the 988 Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Authorities continue to investigate both occurrences and have not disclosed whether the two incidents are linked. Community members are urged to heed the warnings and safety tips provided to safeguard both their own lives and those of others when encountering train crossings.
