Yesterday, Vacaville residents came together to assist local police in capturing a suspected robber. Initially reported by the Vacaville Police Department on their Facebook page, the sequence of events began with a robbery in American Canyon, quickly escalating into a high-speed car chase that ended in Vacaville.
The suspect, later identified as Jyryn Austin-Andrews, 21, from Vallejo, was driving a silver Lexus recklessly, almost causing accidents with other vehicles. While officers attempted to approach the vehicle, the Lexus crashed on VacaValley Parkway. Running from the wrecked car, Austin-Andrews ended up in Vacaville, where alert citizens immediately informed the authorities of his whereabouts. Not long after crashing his car, the concerned residents called in, directing the officers to the suspect hiding in some bushes nearby.
Once the officers established a perimeter around the area, the suspect was apprehended without any further incident. Recovered at the scene was the sum of $2,000 in cash that Austin-Andrews had taken during the robbery at a Walgreens in American Canyon. The vehicle he had been driving during the incident was later found to be stolen.
Austin-Andrews was subsequently booked into the Napa County Jail. He now faces a litany of charges, including felony robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, hit-and-run, DUI, and driving without a license.
