In an altruistic push against the hardships imposed by the current U.S. government shutdown, the Weber Human Services Foundation has initiated an emergency campaign to provide food for those in need, directly supporting both clients and employees of Weber Human Services (WHS). The move addresses the increased vulnerabilities of the elderly and mentally ill clients, as well as employees who might lose SNAP benefits as the shutdown drags on.

According to Weber County, the foundation will be disseminating food boxes come November 6, 2025. These packages are intended to sustain recipients for a week, and delivery services are available for those unable to pick them up in person. The foundation has been urging community members to contribute monetarily, every dollar of which will reportedly assist a family struck by this period of instability.

"We want to care for our most vulnerable clients, particularly those who are elderly and have mental illnesses, and our employees who could lose access to SNAP benefits, while softening the influx of need from our local food banks," said Kevin Eastman, executive director of WHS, as per Weber County. The WHS Foundation is not riding solo on compassion. Summer Williams, executive director of Weber Human Services Foundation, shared with the public, "The response for support has been overwhelming, and we are grateful for a caring community who is coming together for this fundraiser," as obtained by Weber County.
