The Metro Nashville Police Department is dealing with a disturbing surge of gun violence in the Antioch neighborhood with two shootings occurring over a single weekend. The first incident involved a man and a teenager who suffered multiple gunshot wounds last Saturday night, culminating in a crash at a gas station. According to NewsChannel 5, the victims were identified as 21-year-old Marek Winters, who died from his injuries, and an injured 16-year-old who remains in stable condition.
The following day, yesterday, at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers responded to a separate incident in the 1200 block of Clubhouse Lane. As reported by WKRN, a drive-by shooting resulted in a 19-year-old being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The proximity in timing and location of these events has shaken local residents, though authorities have not suggested that the shootings are linked.
WSMV's coverage of yesterday's shooting includes confirmation from the police that 10 to 12 shots were fired, and detectives are still developing leads. WSMV noted that shell casings were found up the street from the initial scene of the drive-by, illustrating the chaotic nature of the event. As the investigation continues, details remain sparse concerning potential suspects or motives behind the shootings.
Police have faced rising pressures as the frequency of shootings in the Antioch area has become a worrying trend. "Multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene," according to the earlier Saturday incident detailed in NewsChannel 5, where detectives believe that Winters and the 16-year-old had gone to the Willow Pointe Apartments for an alleged drug transaction. No arrests have been announced so far, and the Metro Nashville Police implore anyone with information to come forward as both incidents remain under active investigation.
