The Wilson County Courthouse has been illuminated in a solemn show of red and blue since November 10th—a gesture of honor for the crew of Vanderbilt LifeFlight 1, following a tragic incident. Last Saturday, the aircraft, carrying three crew members and no patients, went down in a remote part of Wilson County. The crash claimed the life of one crew member and left two others severely injured.
"The Vanderbilt LifeFlight team is devoted to saving lives, all the while knowing the risks they may face while on the job. These men and women are true heroes, and this is just one of the many ways we can honor their service. Our prayers are with the crew members, the family of Allan Williams, as well as their colleagues and the first responders on scene," Mayor Hutto spoke of the lighting decision, according to a statement on the Wilson County website. The courthouse will continue to shine in these colors through November 17th in remembrance of the fallen and those fighting for recovery at Vanderbilt University Hospital.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) and the National Transportation Safety Board (N.T.S.B.).
